Meet Rachel Cawley, 20, from Manchester, studying English Literature at the University of Liverpool. Another lovely Guest Blogger sharing her own personal style and outfit inspiration.
Studying English at University consists of exact course books and authors so writing for IndependentBoutique.com provides a creative outlet which I enjoy immensely. Clothes excite and inspire me so being able to write about them is incredibly fun and satisfying!
What a difficult question! I’m always drawn to interesting prints but every girl needs a good selection of black dresses. My rainy summer of 2012 has consisted mainly of 501 levi high waited jeans, polo neck crop top and black creepers. Being a student sometimes money is tight so I shop in charity shops a lot. This can be dangerous territory as there is alot of tat and you can quite easily be blinded by the 99p tag, but I like to think I mix charity with high street with a little bit of luxury. It’s nice to think I look well put together but a little bit different – but I suppose everyone likes to think they look like that.
How do you plan your outfits?
I rarely plan outfits and I think you can easily ruin one by giving it too much thought. When it comes to nights out, if something doesn’t come to me or nothing inspires me in the shops I turn to my close friends for some inspiration- by this I mean raid their wardrobes! One of the most satisfying feelings is being confident that your outfit has been put together well and that feeling is even sweeter when you trailed through charity shops and thrift shops to find it.
What’s your favourite item of clothing and why?
My camel coat inherited from my Grandma, because the history is rich and they don’t make coats like they use to, the quality is incredible.
Who inspires you?
Lou Doillon and I know its cliché but Kate Moss (la crème de la crème) they inspire in the sense that I follow what they wear and see them as fashion icons of my generation. But on a day to day basis the people of Manchester inspire me it’s a very cosmopolitan city when it comes to clothes – anything goes!
