Peplum Partywear: The Trend That's Here To Stay

Saturday, January 26th, 2013

The classic peplum trend had been around since the 1800s, with women fashioning a short overskirt that flounced out from the waist. 1947 saw Christian Dior debut the ‘Bar suit and jacket’ introducing the nipped in waist and padded pemplumed hips. The trend became wildly popular and accessible to women of all shapes. The popularity of the peplum continued throughout the 40s with iconic film star Lauren Bascall in ‘To Have and Have Not’ (1944) being fitted by costume designed Milo Anderson in a checked peplum suit.

Therefore there is no surprise that this timeless look was popular amongst fashion pundits in fall of 2012 and continues its way into our wardrobes this Spring/Summer 2013. It kept popping up throughout 2012 and is here to stay for 2013, ranging from dresses, skirts, tops and trousers. The classic feminine silhouette has a timeless appeal so fear not your peplum pieces are not items of the past and can be reworked to fit spring 2013. (more...)

Transparency: Will You Dare To Bare?

Saturday, January 19th, 2013

Transparency is set to be one of the mega trends in the world of fashion this Spring/Summer. Sheer fabric, lace details and risque cut-outs all have their part to play. You may think that working the transparent trend means flashing your unmentionables for all to see - don't worry - it doesn't....unless you want to! You can still work the trend by wearing unexpectedly suggestive cut outs, sheer insets or sheer hems attached to a shorter skirt . You can explore all of sheer's possibilty's ranging from out and proud to a more laid back approach. If you've ever flirted with the idea of wearing sheer fabrics before but were worried about showing too much flesh, never fear, we've gone through our catalogue of products and picked out a great balance of both extrovert pieces and more demure nods to the transparency trend.

Let's not beat about the bush, these first two items measure pretty high on the transparency scale and are certainly not for the shy and retiring among us! These items offer an all over sheer look for bold embracers of the trend.

This Sheer Black Aladdin Jumpsuit from Dancing Leopard is an incredibly sexy piece, imagine lounging in this whilst on holiday in high summer.

The Colette Blouse from Sula is made from 100% silk georgette, a luxurious nod to the sheer trend and available in a whole host of colours. (more...)

Wear More Colour

We can all be forgiven, especially during in the winter months to gravitate to drab greys and fail safe blacks. Wearing block colours can be an instant mood changer and can create evocative results, just think of the double takes you'll receive at the office wearing a knock-out colour block dress and a contrasting jacket - all set for Spring and beyond.
