This summer it’s time to look to the past. What goes around comes around, fashion is a record on repeat, always taking inspiration from past trends. S/S ’12 runways were time capsules, referencing styles from the 20’s to the 60’s, while still keeping a modern touch. This season we’re excited about 1950’s and 1960’s inspired pieces, from flowing a-line skirts and pretty floral prints to statement collars and short shift dresses. Whether you love the longer lengths of the 50’s to the thigh-skimming styles of the 60’s, this season can provide a glimpse to the past with some beautiful pieces available from runway to high street, to the independent retailers you see here. With the sunshine on its way, it’s time to immerse yourself in a whimsical past and invest in some sweet nostalgia. Read More…..

Guest Blogger Heather Leyland Explores The Lower Hem Trend

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

Spotted on the runway for this season were sophisticated knee length skirts as well as those skirts sitting just below the knee. Full maxis also appeared – usually split at the side or front, adding tone and interest. This is such a flattering look and can save a maxi from looking too OTT or last summer! The splits steered away from being frumpy, pleated and avoided sheer fabrics. Although the shows didn’t lack those micro miniskirts, the lowered hemlines had already stolen the audience’s desires. This fresh style has already hit the high-street with celebrities such as Thandie Newton, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Stewart and Natalie Vodianova keeping the revival of the lower cut hems alive.

Here’s some of our favourite items on site that represent this trend perfectly.

Adel Dress – borne by Elise Berger

Demure, desirable and decorous describes this whole look. The figure is defined in this Adel Dress because of the added ruffle detail that rests on the hip of the pencil skirt. Inspired by Marilyn Monroe’s clean lines, the pencil skirt has become a classic style that never ages. Alexander McQueen shared a similar idea here where the raised waist was an exaggerated empire line of ruffles, which undulated as the models walked, “like a jellyfish moves in the sea,” said the designer. As summers fashion reaches new heights of refinement, old “casual-charm” still excites when walking down the runway; models achieve the ultimate silhouette. This look is a fast track to a neater, more determined, hourglass you!

Subtle pleats allow room for growth and the dropped shoulders enhance the overall shape being oversized and casual. Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

phannatiq was established by talented young designer Anna Skodbo, whose unmistakable textiles are inspired by her love affair with forgotten london, urban industrial decay and street art and textures. We chat to Anna about her outstanding womenswear label and the inspiration behind it.

How do you describe to people what you do and your design style?

I would say that we do urban London inspired womenswear for people who like UK produced fashion and independent brands. Who love to dress up but don’t always want to go out in a shiny dress.
Am hugely inspired by London’s little forgotten or ignored nooks and crannies, which is where I get my textile-inspiration from. Read More…..

Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This….Guest Blogger Kate Heslop Gets Comfy With The Pyjama Trend

Thursday, April 5th, 2012

Our clothes this season will have us in a sweet slumber. With the barely-there fabric, soft silks and delicately draped silhouettes, these versatile garments are good enough to take from the bedroom to the street.
If there ever was a piece of clothing that was dancing between chic and comfortable, the pyjama pants are it. For those lazy mornings when slipping into crisp shirts and tight jeans is an uncomfortable transition from silky nightwear – pyjama trousers and loose silky tops are the answer.

And I hear you sigh, exasperated at the unattainable looks forever walked down runways, ‘how would I wear this?’ Well if you’re brave, follow Stella McCartney’s lead and do a double-denim, but in the nightwear department. Grab yourself a set of pyjama trousers and top, with a matching print, and work it. Read More…..

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

With shows like Mad Men, Downton Abbey and Pan AM championing the female form and all things girly, it came as no surprise that the fashion houses quickly followed suit with fashion heavy weights such as Dolce and Gabbanna, Louis Vuitton, Jenny Packham and Mark Jacobs all showcasing floaty frocks, cinched in waists and ice cream shades that would make your gran proud! The key to rocking this look is to enhance your silhouette with confidence but remain feminine and demure – think Carey Mulligan as opposed to Megan Fox – so we’ve collected a few statement pieces to help you ooze that ladylike glamour.
