Esther Porter purveyor of fine bags has now joined IndependentBoutique.com.

Esther Porter bags are designed and handmade in England from meticulously-sourced materials. Why did you start doing what you do?

I wanted to launch a label that was both design led/high fashion/commercial, but also ethical. The fact that Koreans eat Eel regularly as say Chicken is eaten in the west, gave me the perfect skin to work with when I discovered this.

Which designers do you rate highly and why?

I admire the elegant & simple styles of Chloe. I am in love with The Branch jewellery, wooden jewellery that feels so wonderful & organic on the skin. The British Bag designer Richard Emden make wonderful shapes in soft lamb skin..the list goes on.. Read More.....

Interview with new British designer Vicki Wallis from Karrah Designs

Friday, January 6th, 2012

How do you describe to people what you do and your design style?

I create fashion accessories, primarily leather clutch bags at the moment, which are designed and made in the UK. I like to create pieces which are classic and timeless, but which have something unique about them. I like to use basic shapes and add innovative details or an exciting print to turn it into something special. Because my designs aren't mass produced, each item has it's own unique characteristics which add an element of exclusivity. I've always been a big fan of how accessories can make an outfit and I always hope that my designs add the finishing touch to someone's look. I am keen to support local suppliers and always try to use ethically sourced British materials.

What sort of comments do you get about your designs?

People often comment on the originality of the designs and how they are simple but still offer something unique. I think they appreciate the time and effort which has gone into each design and like the fact it is not a mass produced product. Customers always comment of the quality of the leather that I use; the most popular is a butter soft lamb nappa, which I have in a wide range of colours. Read More.....
